Hi there
I use the IAR C compiler. In the Project' s options window there is a tab named C-SPY to make the simulator or emulator setup. In there I see an option JTAG ICE 2. If I'm right there are two AVR JTAG emulators JTAG ICE 1 and JTAG ICE MKII. So this maybe is the JTAG ICE MKII Emulator.
Using my MKII with the AVRStudio 4 it works perfectly. But when I try to use it with the C-SPY there is no emulation but only a message which tell me that maybe the cables are not connected well and that I have to repower yhe MKII and try again.
Is there any freak who can help me to pass this problem. Is there something I forget or I am wrong.

Thanks a lot, Michael

Michael.

You'd think for $2000 it would have a nice user manual with an index, huh?

I purchased a JTAG ICE mkII today and hooked up the JTAG to STK500/STK503 kit for ATmega2560. But I had link errors for this MCU. So, had to contact IAR for 30 day full version. Also upgraded the firmware for the STK500 kit and the ICE through AVR Studio before I tried the options below.

My setup was simple. In the Project Options, I did the folowwing:
1. Debugger Category
Driver -> JTAGICE mkII
2. JTAGICE mkII -> Communication -> serial port
serial port tab -> Default Connection -> COM1

I use a JTAGICE Mk II with C-SPY, and although it's a bit slow (but much faster than the original JTAGICE), it works okay.

There are some issues with matching the version of the JTAGICE mkII firmware and the IAR compiler release (V4.11A appears to be current). IAR technical note 60448 (http://supp.iar.com/Support/?note=60448&from=search+result) should help.
