Hi there,

We are manufacturers of fire alarm panels and would like to switch to modbus protocol for compatibility with other manufacturers systems.

Our first order is to cumunicate with BMS systems (building managment systems), but as we have red in the modicon modbus .pdf, we have to know some codes or addresses that are standard for each type of electronic device (that can be connected on modbus).

I need a hand to start searching what I need.

Michael.

As for the register layout - there is no standard (as far as i know) everyone just does their own thing. Slave addresses can be anywhere between 1 and 255.

For each different device, you need to know what registers do what and what the slave address is. It's not like CAN where there is defined message types. Modbus only sees the world as registers and bits. What those registers and bits mean - that's up to you and the manufacturer of the slave device.
