AS7 is claiming the non-existence of my Atmel-ICE fairly frequently.

Previously a cure was to swap in a different A-ICE and swap it out again.

That didn't work this time.

AS7 found the new serial number and still claimed the A-ICE (not the ATmega2560) did not exist.

What is the incantation to make AS7 believe in A-ICEs again?

Do I need to reinstall Windows?

I do not know what other information would be useful.

I'm hoping the problem was encountered by someone else who solved it.

BTW 'tis a real pain doing this from Windows.

Every carriage return takes me to the upper left corner.

Don't just whinge - report it here: https://www.avrfreaks.net/forum/consolidating-site-errors-and-deficiencies

Top Tips:

  1. How to properly post source code - see: https://www.avrfreaks.net/comment... - also how to properly include images/pictures
  2. "Garbage" characters on a serial terminal are (almost?) invariably due to wrong baud rate - see: https://learn.sparkfun.com/tutorials/serial-communication
  3. Wrong baud rate is usually due to not running at the speed you thought; check by blinking a LED to see if you get the speed you expected

Use Ctrl Enter/Return to avoid this forum editor bug.

Never have had a problem with AS7 and Atmel-ICE on any of my Windows 10 machines.  I seriously doubt you will have to reinstall Windows though.  Oh, perhaps you are running Windows on a VM?

I once had an issue with somewhat noisy boards somehow making Atmel-ICE disappear. I have not found any reasonable explanation. Atmel-ICE would normally reappear after unplugging from USB and plugging back. As far as I remember, a USB hub was somehow making things a little better. The boards were SAMD, not AVR (not sure if that makes a difference).
Edit: I should probably clarify what I meant by "disappear". It would disappear from the output of the "atprogram list" command. I don't remember if it disappeared from the Device Manager. I think not. But then again, I don't remember if I looked there.

The device manager says that the Atmel-ICE Data Gateway is working properly.

atprogram notices the atme lice.

I've reported the cursor issue, but as noted there, I'm not sure where the fault lies.
