EXTCLK vs. EXTXOSC

Does anybody know the difference between these two choices for the SUT_CKSEL fuse? This is for an ATMega6450, but I imagine the answer is the same for all Megas (or even all AVRs). Thanks.

This isn't really a cross-post as it's in the same forum as the thread you mention. That thread is attracting replies that don't answer my question, in spite of my attempt to refocus it. What do you suggest I do?
