I'm currently working on a project that requires an internal unique random number (ESN). This number will be the basis of a secure link between two seperate devices where the second device is programmed to the ESN of the device. Because I need it to be statistically random I've decided to use a 64 bit randomly generated number.

Is there an "easy" way to do this? My current direction is to have a seperate program developed to append the .HEX file with a random number each time the firmware is downloaded. I believe I can make this work, but I'm just curious how other people have done this.

Anyone have any ideas about this?

I was able to implement the seperate program mentioned above to work, and then the program embedded the ESN in to the hex code before downloading (all done in one batch file). Is there any other way?
