Does anyone know if Atmel indends the Dragon to eventually support all <= 32k Jtag/Debug wire avr's, or just the newer ones (eg 44/88 etc) ? I was a little surpirsed to that the mega 162s and mega 16s aren't supported to date.

The Dragon should eventually support the entire range of AVRs for programming via ISP/HVPP (although in practice this may be limited to the same range of "modern" AVRs like the AVRISPMKII is limited to in SP3). It should also support all available AVRs for debugging with equal to or less than 32KB of flash.

Atmel is still updating the firmware and adding in more part support. There's a beta part support pack at http://www.atmel.no/beta_ware/ which adds support for a handful more devices - keep an eye out there for updates.

Thanks for that Dean! Fingers crossed that Atmel will add the mega162 and mega8515 (programming) soon.
