So, are there any "gotchas" in using a Mega88 instead of a Mega8? Funky programming flags or that sort of thing? I'm looking to find out how swappable the parts are. I only need the Mega8 features, but I can get Mega88s for half the cost of a Mega8.

Thanks,

S.G.

How about the application note: AVR094: Replacing ATmega8 by ATmega88

Now how about that, an App Note! Who would have thought to look for one?

Thanks!

Quite interesting, as distributor prices have Mega88 at a few pennies more than Mega8.

OT: I haven't heard any rumblings about the life of the Mega8 (well, actually end-of-life) now that the virtually-equivalent Mega88 is in full production. My guess is that the Mega8 was/is very popular in volume apps and there is no rush to remove it from the product line.

You can put lipstick on a pig, but it is still a pig.

I've never met a pig I didn't like, as long as you have some salt and pepper.
