Hello,

I'm a beginner in programming SAM MCUs so I have bought ATSAMD11C14 and made a simple PCB with one decoupling capacitor on power leads of the MCU and SWD connector where I can connect Atmel ICE debugger. I'm using Atmel Studio 7.

Then I tried to blink LED so I wrote the code and clicked on Start Without Debugging button. Everything works as expected, LED is blinking.

Then I decided to try the same code but clicked on Start Debugging button. Failed:

It says failed to load ELF executable and debugging didn't start, but the code was actually uploaded. So why it says this message? How can I start debugging? Can you please help me to figure this out?

This topic has a solution.

I've found out that the problem was caused by diacritics in a directory name where the AS7 project was located.

Top Tips:

  1. How to properly post source code - see: https://www.avrfreaks.net/comment... - also how to properly include images/pictures
  2. "Garbage" characters on a serial terminal are (almost?) invariably due to wrong baud rate - see: https://learn.sparkfun.com/tutorials/serial-communication
  3. Wrong baud rate is usually due to not running at the speed you thought; check by blinking a LED to see if you get the speed you expected
