I can buy a couple different kinds of non-SMT crystals, and I'm wondering what the practical difference is. Most products seem to use the HC49/US low profile cans. But the cylinders will involve shorter leads on the protoboard, hence presumably less scope for noise and so on. The cylinders will take less space on the board.
These xtals will be 12 MHz, and comparing specs didn't show me any differences of much node ... 18pf, same accuracy in PPM, and so forth.
My question: is there a strong reason to choose one package over the other? Other than the ones I mention, which make me think the cylinder will be better.
