I'll be deliberately short on details, but I'll say prices will go up soon, in particular for the D09, just verify the current price at your distributor. For the D09D14 only Farnell is still quoting the previously going rate ($0.38), Digikey put up almost $8 each in a 6000 tape.

We are in a phase of pure speculation.

I know many here have started on the D09, make sure to review your project, select another mcu if you can, the magic is set to evaporate.

My collegues know Microchip by their fame, and they seem keen on living up to it.

Time to jump ship if you can.

How much will D09 prices go up? What is your gut feeling?

nah, this is a storm in a teacup, the price will stay the same

Of course, if Microchip is successful in raising D09 prices, you might expect other vendors to raise their prices as well.

And Brexit, Trump, Clinton, 49-3 decree, China, terrorism, mideast!!!  OMG!  Redesign everything to be made from rocks!

Hi Bill, I got here for the D09 -- for the price, and promises were made. Now the project is ready for production and suddenly there are no more guarantees. This will be a long-running project and a hike severely harms our prospects. So much for the full disclosure of my interests.

But don't to take my word for it, it is blatantly written all over the web. Verify the prices and present an alternative explanation if you want to debunk this. Those using the D09 should be worried, not because Microchips has a track record, but they do have one, and this is exactly the wrong move to debunk it, so that does not bode well.

Should one cancel a project because of this? One should rethink. If the project is cost-sensitive, it certainly seems this way. At least until Microchip clarifies its policy. Use the power you have while you have it.

Apart from Digikey, who have you tried?
If you're that worried, i'd be redesiging the product using someone else's product rather than bitching here!

I now know the hike prices will take: a little above 60%, a bit more than I estimated (that 40% vote is mine).

If you are so hot, you certainly know about octopart.com. You haven't even taken the effort to look there, right? Working in this industry you know very well that price matters, nevertheless you go right ahead and:

Let me rephrase this: you have all the answers and the moderators can't touch you? For you are playing the person and not the facts. In you world view I'm just a whining sissy with no balls.

You and you second hand are the most agressive on this list. For prior reasons that have nothing to do with me, and that don't belong on a forum like this. Indeed noone with english as a second language would consider doing what you do. This behaviour just alienates people, it's kind of sad.

The way I see it you are simply blocking the informed (yep, that's me this time) from giving info that is no doubt extremely useful to some, by loudly discrediting [them]. That's the kind of behaviour "bitching" normally refers to. So, you're apparently so full of yourself, that everyone else has to take a step back in your honour.

I'll give you your honour, because of the merit of what follows: you are helping out a lot of folks with good advice, behind often-times harsh words that are natural to the technical (which designate likeable and preferable honesty). Please continue doing so. Thanks for when you tried to put an effort in me, or tried to help me think things through, even when I could not agree with you. Because of similar deeds you are indeed a hero made up of many fragments, significantly important stepping stones to equally many on this list.

Sure you're pissed as I would be too. Not quite as bad as a device being declared NRND after you've designed it in. You can try to rally the troups against the evil empire, but that's not solving your problem. Yes, i see that the price has risen significantly and there must be a story behind that. I'd be looking at ST.

Not true.

Kartman made a very point of the matter statement. If you are that concerned then redesign the product while you have the chance.    There was no attack towards you, no 'blocking' information that you are typing in your posts, he is not discrediting you, nor alienating you.

If Kartman had done any of the above mentioned items then his post would have been pulled from the thread.  Instead all that was typed was in laymans terms, "If you are that worried about your profit margin, stop complaining about it, and do something about it"

Hope this clears things up.
