Can I use TCRT5000 for UART comm ?

Well, its got an emitter and a sensor, but I would expect it to be relatively slow.

It would also be pretty short range, I'd be amazed at a half meter. As a reflective sensor, it is spec'd at 2.5mm. Yes, millimeters. 5mm, round trip, .005m. Maybe you could use two of them in almost contact with each other.

if you want to ir serial comms - there is IRDA and there are specific parts for the job. Nevertheless, it involves more than just sending data out the uart.
