What is going on with the availability of the Butterflys??? I origionally placed an order with digikey in Feb -- it got canceled because it took too long on backorder.

I read here there were back in stock - so Mid June ordered two more, They were on BO to end of June -- now The expeced date is in November.

I have a couple of projects I was going to use them on and already have a couple of carrier boards....

Is this a quality problem with the new plant, or ??

Inquiring minds want to know.

next time for shure.

If DigiKey is out, Mouser indicates 274 in stock:

You can put lipstick on a pig, but it is still a pig.

I've never met a pig I didn't like, as long as you have some salt and pepper.

Sammamish near Seattle?

When you do get them, notice whether they immediately (within a second or two) start displaying the scrolling message on the LCD, or whether you have to poke the joystick first.

Smiley says all the Butterflies with the incorrectly set fuse have been recalled, and I certainly hope he's correct. However, if the message displays by itself when power is applied, the fuse is incorrect.

Please let us know.

I've also been told that the distributers all have the fixed version (BOOTRST fuse set) in stock but I'm beginning to think that is another crock. My contacts are not returing my calls (surprise! how could anybody not want to listen to me rant?) but we'll will see in the next week or so.

Thanks -- ordered 2 from mouser -- I cancel the digi-key order. I'll post back here when I get them on the state of the fuse.

ZBaird -- yes Sammamish as in Issaquah or Seattle. I was up toward your area last week.. Spent from 1st thru the 8th in a cabin on the south end of Lopez, right on the water, westward looking, great sunsets. Very Very relaxing.

Here in the UK Farnell and RS have them in stock, but I don't know if they have been fixed. Rapid doesn't seem to have any. Interestingly, Farnell is charging about £18 for them and RS is charging £28!!!

I spent a few days around the 4th on Lopez myself. My brother-in-law has a house out across the spit road on Fisherman's Bay - a great place to watch the fireworks. We also rented an apartment above the Marina since there was a bunch and a half of us.

Probably saw you there. You and 5,000 other people. You should have waved.

Quite possibly - we watched from a friends house at the start of BayShore Rd, right on the water. The low view was slightly obscured by some trees, so the "walls of fire" weren't as spectacular as they might have been.

Our cabin has been in the family since "new" about 1958. At the end of MacKaye Harbor road, just past the county park at agate beach. I've been going ever since it was built...

Hi Les,
I wasn't on the West side, so wasn't one of the 5,000. I think I probably worked with you about 15-20 years ago in Richland though (unless you are a different Les Troyer in Wa that moved to Seattle area). Maybe this thread can be the Wa state avrfreaks thread ;)

Sent you a pm.

Got the butterflys from Mouser yesterday -- sorry to say the display starts scrolling as soon as you pull the battery isolator. Guess I'll have to break out the dragon to slay the fuses..

Todd - 12 years after leaving Richland I still glow in the dark. But I also keep nuclear fuel in my desk drawer for show & tell

Since this thread got revived I'll mention that I posted an Introduction to the Butterfly tutorial yesterday. The idea is that we'll have a place to point people who have some of the basic questions. Feedback certainly welcome on improving it.

I hope for your sake they're not the faulty ones without the BOOTRST fuse programmed. If so you'll need an ISP programmer (or a friend with one) to make them usable.

I just got my 2 Butterfly's from Digikey, they come with Revision 07(dnow what that means, but i think is the new bootloader),but as soon i inserted the battery nothing happened.I had to push the joystick button UP for it to start displaying the AVR BUTTERFLY message.
Thanks for the advice Clawson,i already have the AVRISPmkvII programmer in use for some months and still learning the C language,so i wont even try to set the fuses, since i dont want to search half the web to get the right bootloader again if i do it wrong.

That means that yours is okay, what you describe is the way it is supposed to work. It resets into the bootloader and if you push the button up then it jumps to the application code. You can read my quick start guide to help you get going.

Oh just to try the new buterfly(i guess i'm a bad doctor),since they got the temperature sensor on the board, was about 33 degrees in the room,so i just stuck it in the refrigerator :D When i got it out was showing me -5 degrees, and after about 1 minute it shot down itself since the water formed on the board was messing it up.After 5 minutes of drying at 36 degrees in the sun it came back to life perfectly. So in my opinion Butterfly's Myth Busted!!

I just Love LED_AVR_GCC :)
