I have my own board. I use ATmega8.
A bootloader is needed, so I found this one, burned it on my chip. I had to change the LED pin in the assembly code though, but that's the only thing I modified.

When I start it the LED flashes, I press ESC in the terminal (windoze hyper terminal), I get this message:

--------------------------------------------------+
  Bootloader for ATmega8, Version 2.1 by DL5NEG
Use AVRProg to download new software.
Press E to leave the bootloader and to start the
application software from the flash memory.
+--------------------------------------------------+

But when I start AVRprog it says "No supported board found." I tried AVRprog 1.37 and 1.40, both give the same result. Tomorrow I'll try moving the stuff downstairs so I can test it with AVRDUDE on the linux PC and let you know if it works then.

But why does AVRprog not connect?

P.S. My board is connected to virtual COM4 (FT232RL)

Hmm, on AVRDUDE it works perfectly. It has to be some problem with the windoze tools. Anyway, I don't need them as I have linux ;)

Sorry for bothering.
