A 450 FARAD capacitor?

I had a 4.7 Farad Cap in my car for the bass amplifiers once.  Thing was pretty big.

Got a picture of a 450F cap?

Take a household water heater, empty the water, cut off the top, and fill it with oil.  Use the input tap as the negative terminal and the output tap as the positive terminal.  Weld a half dozen pizza pans to each terminal, but don't let them touch each other (important).   Get far away and apply 2,000 volts across the terminals.  Voila...instant 450 farad cap.

You could probably fit your car into a 450 F cap (of sufficient voltage).

I'v seen people turn water heaters into roasters, but not capacitors!

I once calculated that the car battery in my Mustang was, very roughly, equivalent to a 1 megafarad capacitor.  Horrible quality, tho...  S.

Regarding batteries, I read this a few weeks ago & thought it was extremely interesting:

A quiz cheeky

What are the important electrical differences between a supercapacitor and a battery?

A capacitor stores the charge in the electric field between the plates;

A battery stores the charge in a reversible chemical process.

The key practical difference is that the voltage on a capacitor drops off linearly as you discharge it, whereas a battery's terminal voltage stays nominally constant.

  2. "Garbage" characters on a serial terminal are (almost?) invariably due to wrong baud rate - see: https://learn.sparkfun.com/tutorials/serial-communication
  3. Wrong baud rate is usually due to not running at the speed you thought; check by blinking a LED to see if you get the speed you expected

Was one of the new products in Digikey's email. Couldn't get digikey to respond to the link as our corporate network is now globally administered and rather flaky. Did not keep the email.

You will find that modern really big caps (like the 450F) are a combination of capacitor and rechargeable battery technology.   S.

My Digikey-Fu is strong.   Here's an 'in stock' 3kF capacitor.

Tesla bought Maxwell.  I bought Maxwell stock a long time ago and it promptly dropped to half of what I paid and stayed there.  Now I own a few shares of Tesla.
