What is difference between JTAGICE & JTAGICE mk2?

which one is good choice for debugging and programming & what is the cost for those kit?

Thanks,
Prabu.

JTAGICE is a discontinued product. Several clones of the hardware are available that run Atmel's original firmware (or sometimes a binary-patched version of it), but the target device support is limited to those devices which were supported by the original JTAGICE at the time of its discontinuation. That includes: ATmega16, ATmega162, ATmega169(Except ATmega169P), ATmega32, ATmega323, ATmega64, ATmega128.

JTAGICE mkII is the successor to the JTAGICE. In addition to JTAG, it also supports a secondary form of on-chip debug using a proprietary 1-wire protocol called DebugWire. JTAG is the OCD interface of choice for devices with higher pin counts, and DebugWire is used in the smaller chips. Clones of the JTAGICE mkII are starting to show up, but so far none has been seen with the full functionality of the genuine JTAGICE mkII. The JTAGICE mkII retails for around US $317.

Every AVR that was supported by the JTAGICE is also supported by the JTAGICE mkII. In addition, every other current AVR part with either a JTAG or a DebugWire interface is supported by the JTAGICE mkII. Typically, all new AVRs are now introduced with support for one or the other -- either JTAG or DebugWire.

In terms of programming, the JTAG interface can be used as a general-purpose programmer of all AVR memories, fuse bits and lock bits. The DebugWire interface is primarily intended for debug purposes only, but it is possible to trick AVR Studio into programming the Flash and EEPROM through DebugWire. The fuses and lock bits are inaccessible. However, the JTAGICE mkII can also emulate an AVRISP-type programmer for all your general-purpose programming needs.

Another tool you should consider is the AVR Dragon. It retails for about US $51. It incorporates most of the capabilities of the JTAGICE mkII, except its On-Chip Debug capability is limited to target devices with 32 KiB of Flash or less. It also incorporates additional programming options including high-voltage parallel and serial programming.

For a limited time, you can purchase from DigiKey a combination STK500 + JTAGICE mkII at a deeply discounted price of $150.
You can also choose an STK500 + AVR Dragon combo for $49.

The STK500 is useful as a general-purpose programmer, as well as a testbed for new prototypes. By itself, it does not offer and on-chip debug facilities, but it is compatible with both the JTAGICE mkII and the AVR Dragon.

what it is STK500+JTAGICE mkII? whether it is a single toolkit or 2 toolkits(STK500 & JTAGICE mkII)

Actually ,i am from india.so,for me how much it will cost for JTAGICE mk2 including all taxes and charges.
and also for "DigiKey a combination STK500 + JTAGICE mkII"...
and where can i get these kits?
is it available in india?
Please let me know these details...
Thanks,

STK500+JTAGICE mkII is 2 toolkits: the STK500 in one box, and the JTAGICE mkII in another box.

The DigiKey Search form is an excellent way to find details about any product or kit they sell.

Unfortunately, I have no idea how to calculate how much it would cost to purchase any of this stuff in India. I've never done business in India, so I cannot suggest to you any India-based distributors you could talk to instead. Presumably you have dealt with local distributors before, and these are exactly the sorts of questions you might want to ask them.

But DigiKey does have an International Quote Request form, so you could ask them directly for a no-obligation estimate.

Prabu,

This offer is available only through Digikey.

Shipping charges are high enough that you can't get more benefit on this offer. But it's worth for what you spend.

Or you can order to ship through US postal service, then also this bundle(STK500 + JTAGICEmkII) will cost around 250$ including duties. You can read a story here

 YOWCH! Hoo boy, that's gotta smart!

I thought doing things in India was supposed to be cheaper!
