Hi,
Just getting started and have a basic install question. If this is not the correct forum, please whack me (gently :) with a clue stick.

I am trying to install avr-gcc, and get pretty far but configure whines and bails out.

System: Slackware 10.1 Linux (2.4.x kernel)

Binutils 2.1.7 compiled from sources with:
configure --target=avr --prefix=/usr/local/atmel
All seems to have installed correctly.

Trying to build gcc with:
configure --target=avr --prefix=/usr/local/atmel --disable-nls --enable-language=c
make

goes for a long time, but make bombs out building libssp (whatever that is...) with the following message:
/usr/local/atmel/avr/bin/ld: crts8515.o: No such file: No such file or directory
..blah..blah..
C compiler can not create executables.

So.... I take it I have gotten as far as getting the xgcc compiler built, but am missing a piece. From the file name, I presume crts8515.o is some part of the C run time, and ld is flumuxed as to where to find it.

What next?

Thanks,
Dave

P.S. Did I mention that configure is the work of Satan? Probably forgot that part....

libssp is not supported on the AVR, as it lacks many of the
prerequisites (like a file system). Configure with --disable-libssp.
