Hello,

Out of the sudden my AVRONE! stopped working. It gives an error every time I try to erase, program or read the MCU Info. The only thing it is able to do is to read the target voltage.
I get the following message everytime: Unexpected emulator Error.

The self test throws a bunch of failure codes...

Has anyone experienced this? Could it be a probe failure?

Thanks in advance. Best regards,

Daniel

Hi,
Did you try to refresh the firmware?
Maybe the cable is broken or damaged.
When I used it in a extremely noisy environment than it usually drop the connection with the uC.

And try to set the frequency to low (1Mhz)

Also check what clock source for the device is configured appropriately, internal clock is the most safe.

Hi,

Thanks for your responses. I have already lowered the frequency, updated the firmware, and set the clock source set internal clock. The problem remains.

I have emailed the error codes from the self test to Atmel, lets see what the have to say...

Has anyone here damaged an AVRONE! probe?

did you change the fuses at some stage? brown out detector etc? have checked with different MCU? (just in case the damaged one is the MCU and not the AVRone) , try with diffrent cable?

No, didn't change the fuses. Yes I have tried with 3 different MCUs.

When you say cable, do you mean the entire probe or just the flat ribbon cable?

the entire probe.....but they are robust in general, it seems that there are other people with problems with avrone https://www.avrfreaks.net/index.p...

not sure, did you upgrade the FW recently? have you updated something in your Pc /laptop? dont really know what the problem is

Thanks javicork,

I tried with 2 different computers, same results. I am gonna wait for Atmel response on the error code and then I will buy a new probe.

Actually, I would have tried for a replacement part, since the probe should not just stop working with regular use. My experience is that the AVRONE! probe is very robust, and it even supports hot-swapping in the documentation (hot-connect debug to a running session).

Hi HCE,

Do you mean I should buy the replacement part without waiting for atmel?

No, I meant you should get the replacement part for free :)

That sounds nice. I didn't know Atmel could do that, I am gonna try that.

Thanks...
