AVRONE and AS6 problem

Hello,

I need help to get the AVONE work in debug mode with AS6.0
I have major problem getting my AVRONE working together with AS6.0 on some parts, mega1280, at90can128, atmega644pa.
xmega256A3 works ok

With AS4 and AVRONE it seems like it works.

When the fault occur I get pop up "Failed to launch program"
and lower left corner indicate

"Launch failed "¦ 95%"

In some cases it works if I set jtag clock down to the minimum 7khz, 100khz would not work. If this works I need to set it to 7khz each time, annoying.

I really do hope that anyone have seen and have a solve for it.

What happens with 6.1? (loads of fixes since 6.0)

I am about to try it. I have now removed my good old AS4 and AS6 + all drivers so I do hope.

Somewhere in the programming dialogue box, it says the JTAG freq should 1/4 of the Clock frequency.. so it is always a good thing to reduce the JTAG clock freq to make things work.

The basic rule of "Be slow!"
Regarding the setting of freq everytime, I think you can save the JTAG freq as part of the solution so that you dont have to set that every time!!

Installed 6.1 beta and removed all other Atmel install, unfortunatly still not working.

Lower left corner indicate
Writing segment...95%
and then
Launch fail ...0%

An then a dialog box saying

"Failed to launch program.

Error: The opeartion cannot be performed with the targetmcu in its current state. Debugger command readProgramCounter Failed"

Have tried 7khz, 100khz now luck

Any suggestions.

Prob is only with debug? Device ID, fuses, programming all work ok?

Yes Device ID, Fuses, Voltage signature +++ works without issues.

My frustration was to big so I have removed 6.1 beta and installed AS6.0.1996 once again.

And then I find the following issue. Which I assume is the major issue here, If I degrade the jtagmk|| fw from 7.1d to 7.19 (which is not required refer to avr tool upgrade scan)it works on AS6.0.1996. If I use 7.1d it will not work.
What about AVRONE, I do not know I have not tested it yet, but I have so bad experience with AVRONE so I assume it is not working A fw up or downgrade would maybe help.

It sounds like a fw issue in the avr tools but this tools are closly connected to the as so ther is more with it I assume.

For us this tool is a professional tool. Since we assume that Atmel is professional, so I really do hope that a fix is made quite fast. I have made a ticket but this takes a while so I start the discussion here to see if anyone have a solution.

Have know tested AVRONE with 6.0.1996 and with the latest upgrade of the tool. To make it work I need to set the JTAG clock to 7khz. I use 7.3728Mhz ext crystal. This is not needed on the JTAGMK|| which know works as it should.

And no, it is not possible to save the 7khz setting it jumps up to 250khz but this debug session runs as it should but not the next one then I need to force jtag clock to 7khz once more.

Any suggestions???

Hi, I have been using AVROne and had similar issue on xmega board. However, I just recently found that if you fold cable between AVRone and target device to make the entire length short, it is solved. Or if you hold the same cable by hand, it works as well. I am using 20MHz JTAG. Based on the solutions I found, I think that crosstalk or signal integrity could be a cause. Anyway, you may try those things.
