Ok, I know everyone will jump on me and flame this post but here it is :)

I have looked for and found several schematics for programmers. PonyProg and others. I would like to know from you ladies and gentlemen what hardware are you using and what type of sucess have you had with it, pros and cons. I'm aiming at finding out more about programmers along the line that I may build. As a student and tight on a budget I would like to find something relatively inexpensive to build.

Thank you kindly

Artur M.

Well I like the STK500 myself. www.digikey.com had it down at about $79.00 now.
The AVR-ISP programmer goes for $29.00 itself. They do offer the plans, schematics, and even the HEX files for the chips. You probably can't build one yourself, cheaper though, unless you had all the parts for free.

www.futurelec.com had some really nice programmers, already assembled and tested, and the price was great. I don't know how they can sell them for such low prices.

www.dontronics.com also had some good programmers at good low prices too.

Personally, I built my ISP for under $10 :)

The AVRISP is very cheap, it works, and is supported by AVR Studio. Good enough for me :-)

This thread must be well read. Your post appears to have caused a run on AVRISP cables (at least in the US). I tried to buy this the other day from AllAmerican.com, but they're out now and cancelled my order. Digikey is out also, and they now want $36 to backorder an item which cost $29 the other day.
