Studio 4 4.14.589
AVRPRog 1.40
Vista
STK300 atmega 128
Propox Jtag cable 2

I'm a total newbie, I'm glad for all the AVR FREAKS!!!

Here is my problem:

Jtag was working, O.K, but sometimes after I used AVRISP, I had to restart my PC to get the Jtag to work.

I tried to perform a Jtag cable firmware/flash upgrade via Studio4. I did this because I was getting the recommendtion box from STudio 4 to upgrade the Jtag firmware.

Studio 4 opens AVRProg and I hit "program Flash" button, it starts erasing/programming..the progress bar makes it about 1.4 of the way thru and then AVRProg "stops responding"....I cannot even cntrl-alt-del out of it, I have to hard reboot my PC.

So,because , the flash stopped before it was complete, I need to program it correctly. I have attempted the "manual method" as described on Propox's website, but this still requires AVRProg to work, but AVRProg hangs everytime.....

..any ideas?

SHould I try to install a later version of AvrProg?

any help would be great!!

If you have JTAG why would you need to use an ISP programmer?

The avrisp use, was just background info, it has nothing to do with the problem.....?

FYI I was using Avrisp to program fuses, can you do that with jtag?

Hopefully this thread won't go off on a tangent, the issue is why does Avrprog "crash", when i try to reflash the Jtag cable 2?

I switched to com 2 and it worked. My device manager showed that several ports were "in use" but com 1,com2 were free.....

Well, it seems that AVRProg says it has programmed and verified the Jtagcable2 with the Upgrade.ebn

But then when I go to debug, it says "cannot connect to device on USB or com 1 to 10 "
(I have it on com 4 now,but i tried moving in to other coms and nothing works)

Also when i go to use AVRPRog I get "no supported board found".

I can connect with AVRProg manually though, what should be the stiings under advanced? I just left them as is, because the Propox upgrade instruction did not say to change them.

so still i have a problem
