Hi freaks
I'm working with a digital servo project, based on a ATmega8. I started programming the mega8 in assembler (AVR studio) but now I realize I might have to switch to C.

Now I just wonder how well AVR GCC (WinAVR) performs compared to commercial compilers like Imagecraft, CodeVisionAVR, etc. Is there any point in paying for other compilers when AVR GCC is free?

Cheers
Jakob

PS I have used & programmed AVRs for some years, but I'm new to AVR C programming...

I know you didn't know this, but you just started a thread that will break into religious warfare. Search freaks for compilers and see the other few dozen threads that have addressed this issue. I favor the WinAVR toolset for AVR GCC, but then I like free and I don't mind a little extra hassle requiring the use of my brain.

1. What do you mean by perfomance? Please be exact.
2. Search old threads.
3. Make your decision
