Hello

Atmel Studio 6 beta is now online:
http://www.atmel.com/tools/atmel_studio6.aspx

Quote:
Atmel® Studio 6 is the integrated development environment (IDE) for developing and debugging Atmel ARM® Cortex™-M and Atmel AVR® microcontroller (MCU) based applications.

It includes the ASF3.0, which is available as standalone package here (publishing on atmel.com/asf is WIP):

ASF Release notes:

The ASF online site has also been reworked, and offers now a much better access to contents and API

In particular, see the introduction of quick start guides: http://asf.atmel.com/docs/3.0.1/...

eg to get started with XMEGA SPI driver:

See my thread here for the announcement:

https://www.avrfreaks.net/index.p...

It's essentially AS5.1 + ARM support, with a bunch of new features added.

Oh yes, the quick start guides are live! These are a series of guides we are writing to make it easier to get into the various ASF modules, with copy-and-paste friendly examples. The quick starts run through the examples line-by-line to make it easier to understand the basic use (and in some cases, advanced uses) of the modules, such as this one:

http://asf.atmel.com/docs/3.0.1/...

Very cool stuff.

The new online documentation looks promising. Seems like the comments about bad ASF docs here on avrfreaks have been heard in Norway. Good to know they are trying their best.

Oh yeah (insert classic meme picture here)!
It certainly took some time to have this documentation, but the wait was worth it !! Now one should be able to use any of the peripherals without problems.
I thank everyone involved in this ! This is really good !

Still there are no application example on the DFU bootloaders, even if mentionned in the release notes.

And, in the release note, the PLL bug with AT32UC3L064 (files were added when they should not) has disappeared (not been fixed !)...Does that mean the AT32UC3L064 is going to become a mature product ?

Have a nice day,
Kraal

I haven't had a chance to check yet, but does ASF 3.0 have new DFU bootloaders?

Yes the release note says that the DFU bootloaders now have the version number 1.0.3 (it was/still is 1.0.2 in application note AVR1916, and the fix is about the sysclk not reading the calibration byte for the 48MHz PLL) and support a bunch of chips (can't say if more than previously).

AFAIK L064 does not have a PLL, only the L0256 and L0128.

Yes for UC3 C, UC3 D and XMEGA with USB.
UC3 A and B USB DFU bootloader code is still in ASF v1.

I still have 1Gbyte available before I reach my monthly download limit, so I decided I'd consume it on downloading Studio 6.

Is there a direct download link that does not require me to perform Atmels' registration process yet again.

Otherwise I'll stay with Studio 2.6 and download some LOLcats instead.

AS6 Beta - Full Installer: http://www.atmel.com/Images/as6i...

AS6 Beta - Small Installer: http://www.atmel.com/Images/as6i...

If you have never installed AVRStudio 5.0 ot 5.1, you will need the "Full" installer above, otherwise you can get the small installer.

Hi,

I tried to download the asf-standalone-archive-3.0.1.zip from the Atmel ASF site twice, but every time I got only a corrupt zip package with 11 bytes in size. There is something wrong with this download.

Try a different browser or wget. (wget is supplied with WinAVR by the way)

Ok, do you tried it yourself, or was it just a wild guess? :( Firefox 10, Chrome and wget.exe download 11 bytes. All the same.

According to this page, "Selected megaAVR devices are supported" by ASF.

Does anybody know which megaAVRs that would be ? There should be a list somewhere.

Don't get TOO excited the *only* support is for ADC. Nothing more.
