I'm wondering what peoples experience has been with placing orders thru the store and do they have an outlet here in the US ? I don't want to pay too much for Int'L shipping or wait months for an order !

Here is my (very) bad experience with Atmel Store :
1 - I ordered on 19/01/2011 for $385 one AVR dragon and three Atmel Xplain kit bundles. All items were available.

2 - I received on 24/01/2011 the AVR dragon and I paid 10$ taxes to DHL. But I did not received Atmel Xplain kit bundles. So I send an email some days later to Atmel store support and they said that they were sorry for this short shipement and that they will perform some internal investigations...

3 - on 27/01/2011 they sent me an email saying that they arrange a shipment of the three Xplain kit bundles.

4 - I received the package one week later (and paid $60 of taxes to DHL) but one of the display was unable to display anything. So I sent a new email to exchange this bad display.

5 - On 17/02/2011 I received an email saying that they will arrange a replacement and pick up faulty display as soon as possible.

6 - On 17/02/2011 they send me a new email saying that display belong to a bundle and they need to exchange three elements.

7 - On 22/02/2011 they said that they have system issue and that I will have to wait for replacement.

Since this last email I send three emails saying that I still wait a replacement but they don't answer anymore to my emails!!! And those bundles are available on Atmel Store so replacement should not be so difficult. I'm very disappointed by this behavior from a company like Atmel.

FYI I live in france so our taxes can be more important than the ones you should have to pay.

I use RS or Farnell. They supply immediate replacements for faulty items.

JPB, that's exactly the kind of information I was looking for. Thanks for the story, but I'm sorry for it too ! :(

Torby, I do too when they have what I'm looking for ( AT32UC3A3-XPLD ).

No Atmel store for me, if they'll to that to one they'll do so to many ( all ). The little fish customers, anyway.

The big whales does not swim in the Atmel Store pool. They call their local rep, and say "I'd like to buy 1 M of ATxxxxx", and terms will be negotiated.

No guarantees, but if we don't report problems they won't get much of  a chance to be fixed! Details/discussions at link given just above.
