I'm using

  • Windows 7 Ultimate - with SP1
  • Atmel Studio 7.0.1645
  • Atmel ICE - Host 127.0.0.1 - Firmware Version 1.27 - Hardware Version 0
  • ATSAM4E16C - Signature 0xA3CC0CE0 - Revision A - custom board

When I try to use the debugger, Atmel Studio often freezes and appear the message:
An ongoing operation is taking longer than expected
Details: Tool->poolForTools

After the first time, this message pop ups continuosly, until I restart the PC.
Disconnecting and reconnecting the device is useless.
I've also seen that I'm unable to kill a process: atbackend - of which several instances are created, after several trials.
This problem is very annoying; I can't work in this way.
Please, help me

So not an AVR, then.

  2. "Garbage" characters on a serial terminal are (almost?) invariably due to wrong baud rate - see: https://learn.sparkfun.com/tutorials/serial-communication
  3. Wrong baud rate is usually due to not running at the speed you thought; check by blinking a LED to see if you get the speed you expected
