While typing an unrelated post I checked Micromel for the exact name of the ATAMEL-ICE.

It happens there currently seems to be a discount / sale for the thing with one of those silly coupon codes: TP1747

https://www.microchip.com/Develo...

https://www.microchipdirect.com/...

Some time ago I decided to go Cortex 3 for the more "involved" projects and I doubt the support of this thing via Linux (no Atmel Studio) anyway so it's not much use to me personally.

If I was interested though, I'd probably still buy the bare PCB for USD44 and put it in a box myself.

Spend some time on making connectors, so the orinal do not break of the PCB if it's dropped or anything ...

I changed the title as to your suggestion.

Maybe it attracts more attention.

A single reaction in 6 hours is ... not much for AVR freaks.

Edit:

After title change a new post within 10 minutes. It seems to work.

Atmel-ICE at 50% OFF!

With this offer being such a good deal isn't there a way to feature it more prominently here on this site?   Making it a sticky, for the period of the offer, might help though it would be better if it appeared in the Announcements section.

Can that be done?  Thoughts?

I just bumped into the ICE while checking the name while writing another post.

I'm not interested in buying one.

I'm quite happy with the good old debug stuff I have on my Linux Box for AVR's.

If I want to do something "serious" it will be with ARM Cortex 3 from ST and ST-Link V2.

ST-Link V2 is a USD 2 clone which supports programming and debugging for STM32Fxxx

Why would I be interested in a USD 50 ICE if my USD 2 ST-Link does a better job for me ?

But if you want to promote it further, then bump it up a few times by posting.

Or post 10 new threads right after each other so you push all other threads off the frontpage.

Everybody will love you for that. devil

I just thought I would post my experience with Customer Service at Microchip in regards to this sale... crickets, multiple crickets...

I have tried 4 times over the last 2 weeks to at the very least return my ICE (so I could repurchase it at the sale price) and they just don't respond. The last time I called I was told "the person working my case would call me back"... nope... Even if they just said "hey, um, no, not going to happen" I would be more accepting to that than no response at all.

I'm not sure what posting this information will do other than make me feel a bit better, It's not like i can stop buying from Microchip.... So, i feel better now...

I've heard that ARM processors are the hot things nowadays.

Lot's of opportunities to play around.

If interested in ARM, then have a look at mbed.

Last week I finally got some courage to toy a bit more withe some "blue pills" I have lying around for almost 2 years now.

Got started with platformio. The idea of platfomio looks very cool, but I'm still getting the hang of it, not much to say yet.

mbed is not only a platform (it seems to be what arduino cant' deliver) but there are also a shitload of development boards made compatible with it to get started easily.

Just look at all those boards:

https://os.mbed.com/platforms/

PS: I do not understand why people let themself get dragged into the cloud / mist stuff, and I will nod budge.

Platformio can install the whole mbed platform on your own pc, but the mbed website is cool for info & possibly also the forum.

THIS.... I may just be old, but i can't stand the move to the cloud that Adobe started years back (I still run CS6 Fireworks on the metal and refuse to budge). I like the cloud, I do. It's great in so many ways, I just don't want to be forced to use it for things that don't make sense to me. Programs like Autocad Fusion 360 require storing your projects in the cloud, what? Really? Yes, I understand the product is "free" and that is the "cost" users pay to use it, but I just can't get beyond that. I would rather use an inferior product (FreeCad) than use tools that force using the "cloud". I guess it comes down to what iFixit often proclaims, if you can't fix it you don't own it. Here, if the software doesn't work without the cloud, you don't own it. At some point in the near future, that API or service will shutdown or change, leaving you out of luck.

Just let me save my files locally :)

That was me trying to flag down a moderator, didn't expect to get a grumpy one! wink  Regarding the message, if this forum had a decent list of messages instead of the three that it has, two of which are very negative in nature, then I might have been able to convey why I flagged it in the first place.  Andy could not flag it, so I did it for him.
