I'm not sure what happened. Every time I try to open an example project from ASF or Extensions I get this error.  I don't think I broke anything.  It was working fine the last time I opened it.  This is basically a fresh install.  Can anyone help?  Should I have installed AS6 instead?

Full error:

Failed to initialize ASF distribution

'IronPython.runtime.Exceptions.AssertionException: category must be a Warning subclass at Atmel.VsIde.AvrStudio.Asf.Data.Provider.DataModel.DistributionManager.get_Instance()'

Hi,

I had the same issue. I was able to fix it buy updating IronPython. My (non-working) version was 2.7.5. I updated to 2.7.9 and it started working.

This solution worked for me as well.  I did need to manually remove 2.7.5 from my computer because it would not automatically update it.

This was very helpful. I also had to remove it from Programs & Features on my Win10 machine to be able to install a new version. Thanks.

Hi everybody,

I'm having a similar problem or maybe its evolution. I've updated the IronPython to its lastest version, but quite often, I'm having the same error DaveHardy reported. Uninstallig and reinstalling IronPython solves the issue, but I can't be doing this everytime ASF stops working, which is quite often. Any ideas? Has anybody had this problem?

Thanks from Argentina.

I ran into this with projects that had previously been created and worked fine with ASF.  ASF broke while I was running two concurrent sessions of AS. ASF said "No Project Loaded".

I fixed it by closing the ASF window in both projects. Then closing both sessions of AS. When I re-opened those projects, and re-opened ASF Explorer, it loaded and worked again.

Hey, I just found another solution to this problem.

Deleting the .vs folder in the project directory seems to have done it for me.
