ARM launched the ARM Cortex-M7 yesterday. Are they any Atmel insiders on here that can comment on when/if Atmel plans to make MCUs using the new M7 core?

Judging by Atmel's twitter feed "IoT and wearables" appear to the be the be all and end all of everything! So that would seem to confirm Atmel's imminent immersion into the M7 market!

 

I sort of wonder myself. If you have got to the stage of requiring the computing power of an M7 (double M4) why wouldn't you be designing around the A5 and then you could run a real OS!

I read that Atmel was one of the first companies to license the M7 CPU from ARM so definitely Atmel should be one of the first companies to offer M7s. I think I read this on tomshardware.com .

ISTR it took them several months just to get a datasheet out for the SAM R21 (Cortex M0+) - hope they can do better this time...

The Wikipedia article on M7 listed Atmel as one of the first licensees.
