I have an OLD, I mean OLD design that a last run of boards is being asked for. Sadly the CPLD on the board is no longer made. YES, I have gone through OCTOPART and I have a few RFQs made, but I'd rather pay a fellow freak if I can

Atmel claim they have compatible supersets of the epm7000 series. You just need to massage the file with their free utility. Look up their ATF series of cplds.
Yes, I used many Atmel CPLDs in a prior life. Loved WINCUPL.
The issue is finding a programmer for the ATF1504AS-10AU44. I used to use a little dongle that plugged into a parallel port. >>Remember those?<< I have a USB programmer for the ALTERA device already, and the code is already established so to me, for a one last time, I'd rather just pay the piper on the parts and move on with life.
I am waiting for a quote from a company here in the USA that I found on Octopart. As I wrote in teh OP if a freak has some I'd rather pay a freak for the parts

The issue is finding a programmer for the ATF1504AS-10AU44.
I think any FT2232 or FT2232H can work as an Atmel jtag programmer ? I have a lattice CPLD board here somewhere with a 10 pin header wired to the FT2232H that worked to pgm ATF16xx

Ahhh LAttice! The CPLD that I first started with!
The Lattice Rep gave me something we called "The Jungle Kit" as the outside of the box had a safari like theme to it. Inside were databooks, samples of the parts, and programming cables.....that connected to the parallel port of a PC.

Sure, but if that's impossible, or far too costly, you will of course have some plan B, right ? :)

So I could do 160 x ATF1504AS-10AU44, or ATF1504ASV-15AU44, for under that price :) if the JED transfers ok...

Yes, erasable. - but those are plcc44 ? and OP is after TQFP44 I think.
However, you could be sitting on a goldmine there :)

Ah, yeah. Mine are PLCC. No TQFPs (I think I have some EPM7128 in 100pin TQFPs.)
However, you could be sitting on a goldmine there :)
At this stage of my life, I'd rather find someone that can use them than reap any financial reward. (not to mention personal ethics about not re-selling things that I found dumpster-diving.)
Heh. Let me tell you about the $1000+ 1152pin Xilinx FPGAs that I pulled off the trash pile. (I asked. "no, we can't use them. They're already obsolete from a development point of view, and even if they're used in a current product, there's no way to put "found chips" like that into the production chain.")
I never expected "glue logic" to go obsolete so quickly; I mean, I've got 8051-class micros, GALs, and 74xx logic from even earlier times that are much more usable. Vaguely, anyway.
(Various EPM7064 chips (PLCC and LQFP) seem to sell on eBay in the $2-$5 price range.)

YEs, tell them to use my new version that uses an AVR to replace the CPLD(not joking).

Thats why the customer/myself would prefer to pay a little ransom for the original part. If any rework is needed, the cost of paying me to tweak the code/test/etc, we can have the right parts on the boards and programmed. I also do not want the work as I have a bigger project that I need to focus on as it offers a bigger financial reward that a legacy product that sales was told NOT TO SELL, but did it anyway... WTFE.

Hmmm, let's see. $4004.80/20 = $200.24 each... yeah that sounds about right.
