Hi folks,

recently I saw some film clip (unfortunately without sound) where someone demoed designing touch sensors for Atmel's QTouch library with Altium Designer. Unfortunately I didn't get where this tool comes from: is it part of the QTouch package or does it come from Altium?

Well, searching for "Altium Designer" on google brings up the Altium website as the first link.

Yeah, and a search for "touch sensor" on this site brings 70+ hits, none of them mentioning this tool in the 2-4 line abstract. Maybe you have a more spcific hint too?

How about searching for "Altium Designer Qtouch"?

...what do you think did I try before I asked the question here? ;-)
A google search as you suggested brings up 2800+ hits pointing mostly to press releases mentioning the new cooperation between Atmel and Altium. I tried but wasn't successful upt to now to find anything more concrete about the tool which has been showed in the video.

Do you have any more tangible hint?

And the very first hit has:
Quote:
Atmel Corporation is adding functionality to its Atmel QTouch Suite to provide third party CAD developers easy access to QTouch technology.
Which I thought pretty obviously answers your question.

Steve A.

Altium Designer is a CAD program.
Altium Designer will get an extension (like a library) to support the Atmel Touch Sensors, that is you place the desired touch sensor out from the library into your schematic, connect it to an AVR and you'll get on the PCB side the corresponding footprint of the touch sensor. Configurable and automatically scaling if you change the size (this is great for e.g. sliders and wheels).

Yes, they show the tool in the video.

But where does it come from?
I downloaded the most recent QTouch software from Atmel and there is nothing in the package that my Altium Designer would recognize as tool or library.

I looked and searched at the Altium website for something having to do with touch sensors, but I only find some press releases.

Maybe the magic part of your post is "...will get an extension..." and I misunderstood the video for "...there already is..."?

The extension will be included in the next release of Altium Designer.
(at the moment, only preliminary beta-versions are available (not freely available))

Thanks jpr!

The mystery is unraveled!
That's why I find no trace of the tool out there.

Bummer, I can't afford the service fees for an update. So I will have to draw my sensors "by foot". At least I don't have to wait until June/July to start. ;-)

Oh, and Koshchi: See what I meant?? :-)
