I would like to ask about a car battery that can not start the engine and applied cables from another car to help the car to start its engine,in this case the discharged battery could be damaged from the excessive charging current that flows rapidly in the battery and lead to permanent loss of its capacity.

Can you add distilled water? Make sure you connect - to - with the black cable, + to + with the red cable. Dont smoke. Hydrogen around battery vents. Let the dead battery charge for a few minutes. Cables might get warm. Start up the car thats supplying the jump. Try to start the car with the weak battery. If it starts, dont shut it off for a while while it charges up. Check it with a load tester. You have Harbor Freight in Greece?

The age of the battery is also a factor. It may be past it's useable life.

Also check the connections at the starter as well.

As above, but:

I have the car providing the "jump", (the car with the good battery and the running engine), running before I connect the cables.

Wear safety glasses.

As Bob mentioned the battery may vent hydrogen gas, and a spark could make it explode.

Therefore, the last connection is usually NOT made to the battery, but to ground on the "dead" vehicle, away from the battery. Much safer this way.

Once the "dead' car starts, disconnect the cable that is connected to the "dead" car's ground, away from the battery, first. It will spark as it is disconnected, but the spark won't be near any battery.

I don't use the "good" car to charge the "dead" car. The "dead" car's alternator ought to charge it up itself, once the engine is running.

Also, as mentioned above, if it is not a "sealed" battery be sure to check the water level and top it off first, if needed, and be sure the battery connections are not loose or overly corroded.

Have a look at This Balistic Battery Thread for a photo of a car battery that exploded.

Lets say the bad battery has a terminal voltage of 8V and the good baterry has a terminal voltage of 12V. Connect good battery to bad battery - how much current flows? Not much since you need over 12V to actually start charging the battery. If the engine on the good battery is running and charging it, the amount of current is not too great as if it was, the good battery would be unhappy and vent.

In the case where the bad battery has internal shorts, then beaucoup (boocoo) current will flow and the battery will explode.

Once jump started a school bus with my 1978 Honda Civic. Silliest looking setup you ever saw! Could probably have carried the car onto the bus. Worked.
