LT always has nice ICs, though a bit expensive :(

Perhaps you might make a converter for using a water heater thermocouple, stick it in the camping lantern and generate power to charge a cell phone or run something else?
Well, that's the idea. Amongst other advised usage is, say, a remote control recharged by the users body heat.

Actually, for me, that is a very interesting chip. They have also just announced a companion chip for converting from very high impedance sources such as piezo devices.

During last meeting with LT guys, they showed energy harvesting demoboard which uses piezo to charge battery and lit up LED. Place it on a crowded sidewalk and you will have source of free energy :)
This just begs for a "In Soviet Russia..." joke.
Thermoelectric generators have been used in rural Soviet Union/Russia since at least the 1940s. I remember seeing pictures of kerosene lamps with a thermo generator built into the the top of the lamp. They were used to run small radio receivers, among other things.
Russia is scattered with Radioisotope thermoelectric generators to power light houses and navigation beacons.
