The whole thing looks suspect. If it is legitimate, do a bit more work on your website.

Your site offers a download of a (windows?) executable, with no other description or something that convinces me that this is harmless software. We have had a world-wide network for something like 20 years now, and the risks/threats has been there all the time (and before that malign software spread on e.g. floppy disks).

Any sane person should refrain to download some anonymous software from such a site.

If your program really is as great as you think, then start surrounding it with some good documentation and stuf. This will make your web-site much more credible.

As of January 15, 2018, Site fix-up work has begun! Now do your part and report any bugs or deficiencies here

No guarantees, but if we don't report problems they won't get much of  a chance to be fixed! Details/discussions at link given just above.

Virustotal can scan a file against 47 separate anti-virus tools.

Four of the tools report your executable is infected with the following

    W32/Backdoor.LPKO-1163 W32/Backdoor2.HRDH
    Trojan/LockScreen.a
    Win32/Jorik.KJ
This doesn't mean that it is malicious, but I certainly won't be running it on my machine.

dear reza30,

If you want anyone to risk even looking at your RAR or ZIP file, you should make some regular posts. e.g. contribute to regular threads.

I would guess that some of the developers of a bona-fide AVR project would be long term members of this forum.

David.

I used VirusTotal to scan the URL last given, and it tells me:

The URL response content could not be retrieved or it is some text format (HTML, XML, CSV, TXT, etc.), hence, it was not enqueued for antivirus scanning.

While you may be a totally honest person, with not evil intentions at all, you must understand that many people will try to "err on the safe side". I.e. if they can not be totally convinced that something is safe they will not touch it.

Here's what I am afraid of re that URL: You stated you have scanned it and that it was free of viri. You then supply a link to the scan report. Nothing stops you from changing the file at the URL after that.

I'm not saying you actually did. I'm just saying that it can not be positively ruled out.

I won't touch it.

I tried to install this on my test machine.. once I actually managed to get a version that was on a clean web site Norton refused to run the installer. in fact it didn't even ask or quarantine it just deleted it for me!

I now wont touch it either.

Reza, why don't you post some screen shots of your program and tell us what makes it so good?

You totally don't understand. You can post as many scanning reports you wish. There is no guarantee whatsoever that any of them is a scan of what is actually a scan of the file currently available for download.

This is what I tried to certify with my scan of the current file. Ant when doing that it was clear that not only was the file changed in some way - it was now of a format that the scanner wouldn't scan. This does not make me less suspicious.

Again, let's assume you have no evil intents. Let's say your first, evidently infected file, was a mistake. This still shows that you are bad re protecting yourself against viruses.

The mere act of uploading a file without making as sure as is technically possible that it is free from infections is a warning for all to be careful with things you source.

What is your daily anti-virus routines?
What anti-viral software do you use?
For the computer that the infected file was built on, have you done a thorough scan with a trusted andti-viral software since you got the heads-up?

If a piece of software claimed to be

the best AVR Burner Software in [whatever country]

surfaces as viral infected, then "best" is not worth much.

If you really want help developing this software, then why not put it up on one of the collaborative sites around the world? If you share the source code then it is much more likely that you will get help in developing it.

You also need to define what makes this software better than other ones existing out there. (Not limited to Bangladesh, min you. The Internet care little about national borders.) If you have good arguments re what makes this software (potentially) better than others (in some aspects) then people also might get more interested.

Hello Mr Reza. If you add your city and country to your profile, the other avrfreaks will know where you live on the earth. I find this simple piece of information somehow makes the messages seem friendlier.
