I am using Atmel Studio 6 build 1996 on Win7 x64.

When I need to create a new project: File -> new -> Project, the IDE hangs there forever and I have to kill the process. I discovered later on that I need to run atmelstudio.exe using administrator pivileges, which is something atmel studio 5 did not require. I had nothing changed on system other than uninstalling 5 and installing 6!?

Signature: We need more peripherals in DIP packages. Namely, USB, 12-bit ADC, 16-bit timer, cheaper tool as a programmer/debugger coz STK600 is expensive! Atmel Studio 5/6 sucks! coz it brings MS visual studio crap to AVR world..

That's not normal - admin is only required when trying to remove an extension that was installed for all users. Can you try a reinstall?

Make Atmel Studio better with my free extensions. Open source and feedback welcome!

This has not solved the problem. I reinstalled everything actually, MS Visual Studio 10 shell, Atmel USB and Atmel Studio.

What am I supposed to do?

Do you have full access to the folder used to store projects ?

On my system, projects are stored in subfolders of the "My Documents" folder. I think that is the default setting.

The actual folder used varies between systems and users, on my system it's something like "C:\Users\Sid\Documents\Atmel Studio".

Are you trying to write to C:\\Program Files ?

I did not try to open existing projects. Simply I ran the studio and File->New->Project and it hangs forever, what it is doing, I sincerely don't know, I just kill the process and run it as an admin and it works ok when I File->New->Project.

ChaunceyGardiner, yes I have full access to my projects folder.

I am not trying any of what has been said in the above posts.

Please answer the following which would help people here to understand the problem better and help you out :)

Does it happen for the after studio installation?

or

Every time you try to create a new project?

Have you got the chance to create a new project ever in your machine?

Regards,
Deena

It happens every time I try to create a project. I have been using AS5 and been able to create new project. It all started when I decided to upgrade to AS6, after I installed and ran it, I tried to create a new project, and the new problem popped up, it just hangs, and I must kill the process. So, if I run it again and try to create a new project, the same occurs again!
