UPS + Inverter controller IC

Hi Guys,

Has anybody come across any literature on a UPS + Inverter controller IC and what it is supposed to do?

I know the PWM control of the MOSFET switches but what other tasks is the controller supposed to be doing? I am trying to build such a system using a dsPIC3010.

Any pointers to tutorials/sample projects, etc. would be appreciated.

Try the Microchip forums since that is the processor you choose to use.

A UPS is essentially a switching power supply that has two power sources...Mains and the battery, and toggles between the two based on environmental needs.

I googled UPS + INVERTER CONTROLLER IC and got a boatload of hits (including this thread).

MicroChip has a great tutorial exactly on this subject. Check here. The app note is actually good for AVRs, also as most of it deals with electronics design.

Thanks a lot for your help.

Actually I have a schematic of such a controller system and I am writing PIC code for it.

Any ideas on what this circuit does? Just looking for an overall picture as far as the PIC is concerned
(i/p's and o/p's).
For example, I am not sure what VTG-FDBK1, HS2, LS2, etc. are.

Again, we don't speak PIC here, this is an AVR forum. You might ask on a PIC forum. We stay away from each other 'cause we tend to fight and throw microcontrolers at each other. This way, we don't have to stand in a corner.

It's easy to stop breaking the 10th commandment! Break the 8th instead.

Whilst it is a schematic, it doesn't have component values and doesn't look entirely complete. VTG-FDBK1 is voltage feedback1, LS1 ,HS1 is the low side and high side pwm drive for the mosfets is what i translatecthose abbreviations as. You're going to have fun writing code for a schematic you don't understand.
