I have a client, who ha a client, that would like a 3 button remote control. Depending on which button entered, 1 of 3 incandecent light* will come on. ( * that letter key not working on my 'board ). I've never done RC unit and he need it by 6/13/12 . The original de*igner can't be found and client referred to me la*t week.
Doe* anybody know of a *imple enough circuit that I could get working ? Range need to be 10' - 20' .
AVR410 and AVR415 are IR TX and RX application notes with ready made code. Simply use 3 buttons.
Does the receiver already exist, or is that part of the project?
If you need both receiver and transmitter, the Micrel QwikRadio chips are excellent for simple tasks like that:

Jerome, from memory there are short range IR switches available at dealextreme like this one that might be the basis for your design. It appears to have both transmit and receive IR diodes mounted. Hopefully there is some data somewhere.
Or this one does 4 channels via one control via wireless.

HOW do you find stuff like alt + 115, etc
As I prepared a lot of the MS-DOS translations (Italian, Spanish, French, German, etc) for our PC range I found myself doing this a lot. Of course things were further complicated by setting up code page 850 or whatever to replace code page 437 back then - thank God for Unicode and UTF these days!
I still use alt + 248 to get the degree symbol °
alt + 171 and 172 give you ½ ¼ which can be handy.
Launch a Windows built-in Character Map application and get any characters you ever need.

I'd have a look at http://www.smarthome.com. The have plenty of remote controls for all kinds of applications.
They are based in the US and should be able to ship/deliver in days. DX is cheap, but you'll pay it with a couple of weeks of delivery times.

I wonder how long it will take for you to "produce" a ready to work NOW alternative. Truly, I sometimes think that the "and I want it now" type of customers are not worth the aggravation.
Markus, I couldn't find units on that site that client would like ( too big and I didn't find anything for general control, but I didn't search every remote's page either. :wink: )

Markus, the eval. kit below is from the same company I referenced in an earlier post. THAT kit uses relays and is a pain to interface to a MCU just to detect a button press. Powering the module required a Vin_min = 7V, so a 2nd regulator chip just for that and a Iload_min = 600mA to energize the coil. I would've had to use power resistors JUST to get a simple R_pullup function to MCU inputs ( THEN would've had to get the "pull_voltage" in a range that the uC could handle :roll: ) ! Like I said, a Digikey rep suggested that kit to me and he knew about it since he was using it to control household stuff.
In the time it took to come to a right decision...I could've just ordered from one of the links given from this thread ! Customers, customers...
