Hi, I have an old SD card of 512MB. I would like to change the clustersize to 512bytes. Tried to format it but it only wants to format with a clustersize of 8192Byte.

Why is that and is there maybe some software to make this possible? I am using XP and would like to store some data with an avr on sdcard.

Thanks

Why is it important for you to change the cluster size?

If a sector is 512 bytes then why is it useful to have a cluster that is only one sector?

IIRC, your attempt will render most of your SD card unusable. is that what you want?

You can put lipstick on a pig, but it is still a pig.

I've never met a pig I didn't like, as long as you have some salt and pepper.

Looks like I am confusing clusters with sectors :)

Thanks theusch, I get the difference now.

Anyway, 8K clustersize is still small for my needed filesize so this won't be a problem :)

The only implication of the cluster size is the average wastage per file which will be 4K per file for an 8K cluster size. This is unlikely to matter unless you are really creating thousands of very small files.
