Someone asked me a few days ago, whether electronic type pest repellents have an effect on ferrets. I don't know and frankly don't care, however it did give me an idea. How about a "robot ferret" for going down a rabbit warren and "ferreting the rabbits out so they can be caught in a trap. Whether it is remote control or on a tether, with an IR camera, it could be a lot of fun chasing the varmints.
I would think that the platform should probably use tracks.
Any thoughts?
electronic pest controllers & ferrets
Yep. Dean's tracked project ... after it gets assessed  ... and he can afford to lose it.
A modified microwave oven works well. To be sure, use explosives, fun as well as effective. Incendiaries let you stage your own Kiss concert.
"Fire in the hole"!
My father (RIP) used to use explosives to go fishing ... as a teenager.
Tell us more about the microwave technique Kartman. At present, I have been pouring a litre of petrol down the warren and then build a bonfire of it just before lighting it. You get a hell of a "woof" from the explosion. (I still have my eyebrows) I feed the bonfire for an hour or so and then fill in the hole while there is still plenty of smoke in the ashes. It seems to be effective. Using electronics/robots has some appeal.
For the bunny lovers who find this cruel, these are not cute little bunnies!
I was joking regarding the use of microwave ovens and explosives!
Well I am effectively using explosives and I thought that you were suggesting using the warren as a waveguide and turning them into Kentucky Fried Rabbit. Mmmm ... the aroma of fried chicken...err underground mutton! :)
As is often (usually? always?) every possible topic has already been raised on AVRFreaks. In this case, reference

And in the latter, js said "However, in honor of the happy event, I will not eat rabbits for the rest of my life." Here it needs to be known whether the rabbits in question are wearing sunglasses or not.

But I wasn't
I like the idea of a tracked vehicle running through the tunnels. Our dog, Angel (of destruction) would not tolerate a mole in her yard. She would dig them up and kill them. I'm not sure which, the mole or the dog, did more damage.
Sprinkle peas around the warren. Then, when they come up to take a pea, shoot them.
Perhaps all the AVRfreaks in the US should come and stay at my place for a week or two, but bring your guns!:)
Here is a ~map of warrens that I have destroyed on my property to show the extent of the problem. :(

hmmm Now we know who Elmer Fudd and Sam Yosemite were inspired by.....
Be wery wery quite I'm hunting wabbits...
Your rabbits must be reproducing like rabbits!

Might be fun

Apparently, rabbits were the main supply of meat during thee depression (30's). I have had them as a kid, but I really don't like the smell of them or eat them these days. Apparently boiled up with lots of garlic & onions they are not to bad .. thanks but no thanks.
I do propose to use LPG gas rather than petrol. The LPG gas is heavier than air, so it permeates well down into the burrow, where it displaces the air. The trick is igniting it from a fair distance becuase it really goes of with a big bang!
Farmers did use ammonium nitrate & diesel fuel , but since 9/11, it is almost impossible to purchase AN. Igniting it is also somewhat problematical!
Yep, I think I am a curmudgeon like Elmer Fudd!

I think a electronic piezo igniter, connected to spark plug via say 10 meters of insulated HV voltage electric fencing wire might be the way to go. The electronic igniter could be triggered via some low voltage wire say another 20-30 meters further away.(to be sure to be sure).
I thought of Molotov cocktails for ignition as well, but to messy & dangerous (and I am not an accurate thrower).
Shouldn't this be in the cooking forum ?

Well I couldn't find a symbol for half a laugh ... round up I guess.

What about using a wireless link? Here in the states you can go into Home Depot and get a keyfob TX/small box RX that has a relay output. Both run on a 9v battery. The range is quite impressive. The plus is that the transmission is encoded so no worries of preignition :)

My father-in-law, or father-in-x (x's dad) tells of using their lunch pails to catch rabbits for supper on the way home from school. Mom tells of going out to the rabbit hutch to get one and getting it ready for supper.
