I've recently been looking at an old project, which used a Mega8, I've noticed that the Mega8 (and 8L) is in the process of being replaced by the Mega8A.

Usually when a product is replaced, Atmel list the changes, but for the 8 to 8A I can't find a list of changes.

After a quick scan of the Datasheets. I can't see any significant changes. Are there any or is the Mega8A designed as a drop in replacement?.

Also I can't find anything from Atmel announcing the change, however I sure that is just because I'm looking in the wrong place (I think/hope).

Most of the "A"s are simply a process change/die shrink so the only thing impacted is current consumption (dropped)

You can put lipstick on a pig, but it is still a pig.

I've never met a pig I didn't like, as long as you have some salt and pepper.
