I installed 4.17 and after that have only sporadic contact with the JTAGICE Mk.II. This is on 2 PC's.

Checking the Windows hardware list it has found Jungo->JTAGICE mkII. Ver 10.0.1.0 Also under Jungo is Windriver Ver 10.0.1.0

The JTAG II does work through serial port. It also works through USB on another machine with earlier version of Studio4. But have to be "firmware downgraded" to do so. So I'm pretty confident the JTAGICE is OK. Same goes for the USB ports in the PC's as they happily drives a ProfiCore unit on any USB port.

I have 180 AVR's to program this week. I don't understand that I could be so stupid to upgrade Studio4 when I really need it, but I did.

Not that it helps but just to confirm that my JTAGICEmkII works faultlessly with 4.17 on Vista 32bit. The implication of this is that the problem you have might be something else installed on the PC or attached to its USB hub or whatever.

Tnx for responding clawson. Checked that as best I could, did not find any bad HW.

But now problem is solved:

1. Uninstalled 4.17 and driver.

2. Checked that it detected new hardware when plugging in JTAG ICE MkII, but escaped without installing anything. This just to be sure the Jungo/Windriver stuff was not stuck in the machine.

3. Installed 4.16 with USB driver as per std. procedure.

4. It now works as before. With the same hardware inside and also connected to USB.

My conclusion: Hardware is not broken, Studio 4.17 is.

Sorry I didn't mention: This is Win XP Pro, SP3.

AVR Studio 4.17 wants to update the firmware in the JTAGICE mkII - did your update succeed? If not, AVR Studio 4.17 will have problems.

On my system I found that I needed to "hand" update my JTAGICE mkII by running \AVR Tools\JTAGICEmkII\JtagIIUpgrade.exe For some reason the update hung in AVR Studio.
