ATtiny24 crystal/oscilator

Sorry i´m a newbie in avr.
I have a ATtiny24 but i don´t know if an external crystal/resonator is needed.

Please help me. :lol:

All current AVRs will work happily off their own internal oscillator so you don't NEED anything external. However if you are planning to do something with a very tight timing constraint (UART-RS232 or RTC for example) then you will get far better accuracy using one (could well be the difference between success or failure)

And, if you were to use an external crystal, just hooking it up to the Xtal pins does NOT make the uC use this as the clock source. To select the externally connected crystal as the uC's clock source you have to set the FUSES correctly, also.

And, if you use the internal RC oscillator, you can calibrate it with the already existing Atmel calibration routine. Check the Atmel app. notes for more info if you need it.
