How do you attempt to load the program? How do you connect it to your computer?

Are you using their optional in-system programmer?

The documentation is not extensive, the board contains a mega8535, power regulator, a simple RS232 level converter, RS232 brought to a RJ11 plug and the ports brought to pin-headers.

Assuming the shipped 8535 contains a boot-loader or some test code then you need the J4/J5 jumpers correctly set to wire the RX/TX pins to the serial port and a correctly wires serial cable.
- Are the serial jumpers (J4/J5) set on the 1-2 pins ?
- Are you using a good cable (did it come with the kit) ?
- Are you using the correct serial port on your PC ?
