I have an stk500 that works fine when programming chips that are placed on the board. However, now that I am attempting to program an atmega32 (TQFP/MLF version) by hooking the isp10pin connector to my custom pcb, it gives an error in avr studio.
The error is pretty generic and says "a problem occurred when executing the command. make sure that you are using the correct programming method. current mode is ISP. See the command output for more info."
I've checked the connectivity, and MOSI, RST, SCK, MISO, VTG, and GND are all connected to the correct places on the chip and on the 10 pin header. No other components are connected to the chip at this time.
I do not have power connected to the chip. I do have the VTARGET jumper set on the stk500.
Am I doing something wrong? Are other components needed for ISP to work properly?
