What do you use as hookup wire ?

I like to use cat5 cable cause I've got heaps of it lying around plus it is single core, so when you bend it into position it stays there.

The most annoying thing is that the insulation doesn't stand up to heat. I've have to solder joins very fast or else the insulation just shrivels away. Also it would be nice to have something a bit heavier.

I use 24, 26 but mostly 28 AWG solid teflon insulated wire for board wiring, usually on
Vector 8015 CircBord, soldering heat doesn't affect it. Solid Teflon wire of this size costs
about $60 USD for 100 Ft from Digikey/Mouser. To work with this wire a special stripper
is needed - Ideal Custom Stripmaster 45-169, is not cheap, discontinued?
