My Raven Kit should be coming in the next few days. I was woundering is there step by step guide like those in the toutrial on programing these.
I don't think anyone has had the Ravens long enough to have built up the knowledge base for a tutorial. But I'm sure that it won't be too long before someone decides to give a Raven tutorial a whirl.

Will this pdf be adequate to program the unit.
I assume you meant this document: AVR2001 AT86RF230 Software Programmer's Guide? There is no FLASH or EEPROM on the AT86RF230 to physically program. This is more like a guide for software hosted on another microprocessor that controls the AT86RF230 through its SPI connection. This external microprocessor typically has FLASH that requires physical programming, but this guide is about how to write the software.

The ATmega1284P data sheet is not released yet, but its like a 644P with 16k of SRAM and an added 16 bit timer (keep looking for the ATmega1284P data sheet release). ATmega164P/324P/644P data sheet (if you use the RZRAVEN):
ATmega329/3290/649/6490 data sheet (if you use the RZRAVEN):
Then you need something like RZRAVEN, or STK500 board & STK501 & ATAVRRZ502, or STK541, or a development board, etc.
Lots of things will program the ATmega1281 and ATmega1284, but entry level JTAG debugging starts with the JTAGICE MKII. The ATmega3290 entry level JTAG debugging starts with the Dragon.
