Hi,

I am using the above config on a fully patched XP Pro system with IE7 & Office 2003. Programming target is an Olimex AVR128-MT board.

With 4.13 SP1, I could use AVR JTAGII debugging as well as the Olimex JTAG-USB I have as well.

With SP2, both crash AVRstudio with an exception - the application is closed and an error report (enclosed) is generated.

I should point out that both JTAGs are USB connected, and both happily program the target board. It's only when I invoke JTAG or JTAGII debugging that AVRstudio crashes. It makes no differerence if I have any breakpoints set or not.

The machine on which this is happening is generally very stable and never get a BSOD or other problems...

Where do I go from here?

Thanks

Nick

Good question. There's been a fair number of reports about this (and I have personally had this myself, both with 4.13 SP1 and 4.13 SP2. In my case, uninstalling and reinstalling latest versions of AVR Studio and WinAVR did not help. I ended up purchasing IAR and all is now well for me (except my bank account ;-))

I did read one report of someone who uninstalled the latest WinAVR and reinstalled an older WinAVR, but I'm not clear how the compiler would make AVR Studio crash on debugging.

I'd recommend that you do a search on the site for avr studio crash debugging and read some of the reports. Maybe you'll find something which will fix your crashes. You can also send an email to avr@atmel.com to open a support ticket.

Well, progress at least, of sorts.

Atmel have reproduced the crash with an example project I sent them, so some progress.

Unfortunatly, the issue has been passed to the AVRstudio developers with no idea as to when I might see a fix or workround. Their comment was that they are very busy right now...

More progress, and good at that!

Atmel seem to have identified the cause of the crash, and hope to have a fix soon!

Hope for those amongst us with JTAGII issues... :D

Reply from the developers: There is a beta version of 4.14 that has a fix specifically for this issue, and I'm trying that now...

AND IT WORKS!

Problem (for me at least) FIXED... :D
