I think I slayed my Dragon...
I connected the Vcc and Gnd pins to a 7805 voltage regulator (stupid, I know) to try to get it to power a uC. Immediately once I connected it, the LEDs went out and it was like I unplugged it. However, there was not any smoke or smells coming from the dragon.
When I plug in my dragon, the LEDs work just like normal. I updated the firmware (it was already updated, but I just wanted to check if it worked) successfully.
Previously, I had been able to program my ATMEGA16 chip with the dragon with both ISP and JTAG. I have tried both ISP and JTAG since, and it will always say "Entering programming mode failed". (I'm just trying to read the signature at this point)
I have my ISP frequency set at 125 kHz (and have tried a bunch of different combos as well). The mega16 should be at the default 1 MHz.
The only thing which I have not tried is shorter wires from the ISP cable to my chip (it's on a breadboard). Previously, I used essentially the same wires to program in both JTAG and ISP.
At the moment the only wires I have connected to my ATMEGA16 chip are on Vcc, Gnd, Gnd, AVcc, and the six ISP connections. The target board voltage according to the Dragon (in AVR studio) is about 4.8 V. I've checked the ISP connections one hundred times, they are in the correct locations.
Should I try finding some smaller wires to connect to my chip or did I totally f up my dragon?
Someone tell me I'm doing something wrong, because I can't afford another one...
