Purchased assembled USBTinyISP programmer but green LED won't light

I purchased an ASSEMBLED USBTinyISP programmer and plugged it in to a USB port on my computer having first downloaded and installed its drivers.  The green LED remains off.

The only clue I get is a message which says "enumeration error".  I simply do not know what that means or what I have to do to fix the problem.  And yes, the USB cable is OK

-- it works fine with an Arduino UNO R3, which shows up in device manager under Ports.  No such showing in Device Manager for the Tiny ISP programmer!

 

Anybody else had this problem and managed to get a solution?

My first thought is "if you have an Uno why did you buy the USBtiny?". You can use the Uno as an ISP programmer. My next thought was "it's 2020, why usbtiyisp? Surely you buy USBAsp if you want a "cheap" programmer these days? The tiny version was simply trying to hit a price point but the 8K USBAsp now (because of scale) generally cost the same or less than the 2K USBtinyISP

 

But I guess it is what it is. So what "drivers" did it require (usually these things are HID and driverless)? I guess from the mention of "Device manager" you are talking about Windows not Linux? If so maybe get usbdview.exe which reveals a lot more about USB devices in Windows.

 

But if it won't even enumerate it simply sounds like a hardware failure so I'd look for an exchange/refund.

Thank you Dawson for taking the time to reply.  Yes, I am using Windows 10, which I loathe with a passion.  Consant lengthy updates which invariably change my settings.  GRRR!!

My computer is a dual boot Linux / Win 10, so I will try connecting the device under Linux.

Thank you for the compare and contrast between the UNO and the TinyISP -- I confess ignorance of the development history of these different devices.  So you have done me a service, thanks

Yes I downloaded the drivers from the Adafruit site, and I have contacted the supplier with the problem.

It will keep you going and let you ISP until you can sort out the problems with the USVtinyISP.
