is the key question!

Top Tips:

  1. How to properly post source code - see: https://www.avrfreaks.net/comment... - also how to properly include images/pictures
  2. "Garbage" characters on a serial terminal are (almost?) invariably due to wrong baud rate - see: https://learn.sparkfun.com/tutorials/serial-communication
  3. Wrong baud rate is usually due to not running at the speed you thought; check by blinking a LED to see if you get the speed you expected

I know this is "General Electronics" but we do try to keep some kind of distant link to "electronics used with AVRs" here !

I sort of gathered you wanted some sort of ethernet switch - as to where the mcu is involved is questionable. From the smart switch chips I’ve seen it is a mpu and usually running linux.

You’re asking about a fairly niche application on a forum that is for entry level mcus.

How about a Black&Decker toaster, I use one to do my SMD PCB's (they have AVR's), but sadly the model is obsolete so this is really just noise, I am not helping the signal to noise ratio.

Update: but tarts taste funny now, or do I got Covid19, at least I stopped using it to recover Au from Hg amalgam.
