Hello all,

I was using the AVR JTAGICE mkII with Atmel studio 7.

I accidentally ejected the device while the device was trying to communicate with the target board.

When I tried to reconnect, unfortunately, Windows isn't recognizing the device anymore. Both the green LED beside the USB port and the status LED isn't lit up anymore.

As expected, Atmel studio doesn't find it as well.

I'm quite new to Atmel Studio and JTAGICE mkII. It would be great if someone can tell me how to fix this problem.

Best regards,

Vishak

Is this a real Atmel JTAGMk2? Is it possible that the power switch is in the off position? I just checked mine but unfortunately the power switch is mechanically broken sad and will need to replace it.

Yes, it's a real JTAGMk2.

The power switch is in ON position. The LEDs for target board and JTAGMk2 is lit up. The status LED is not (which means, it is idle and connected, accord. to the user manual).

I also un-installed and re-installed Atmel studio 7 (thinking it might be a driver issue), but that didn't solve the problem.

No idea what happened with the post above, it seems to have a zillion CRLF at the end and messed up everything, even my notification was bad with no link. Maybe Morten can have a look?

Tried to edit it.

... looks like there's a zillion newlines... it's even encoded in the backend as a zillion

The z was me trying to edit the post and figure out if I could just get rid of the rubbish but I gave up, either the corona virus got to the poster's computer or a 1st April joke.smiley

Anyway this thread made me discover that my JTAG Mk2 has a broken switch, I must have bumped it last time I used it. angry

Sorry for the weird comment, I think I accidentally pressed a lot of newlines before posting. It has been edited now.

I think I found out the cause of the problem.

I flashed the wrong firmware(possibly a clone's) into the JTAGMk2. That's why it's dead and not even recognized by Windows.

Is there a way to save the debugger?

The only way I have ever done firmware upgrades is via Studio itself, I doubt it would install a clone's firmware.

If you used a programmer then you have probably destroyed the bootloader I guess. No idea how to fix this.
