Hello all,

I am having an issue with 4.12.498 Service Pack 4 when creating a new simulation project using the JTAGICE MkII. When I select the JTAGICE mkII platform no devices are listed at all. If I select the AVR Simulator platform I see the list of devices. I seem to recollect a fix related to the MS XML parser that I have had no luck searching for on the forums for the past fix.

I was forced to Install JTAGICE mkII when I plugged it into the USB port as an administrator which seemed to work correctly as I can connect to and actually upgraded it's firmware with AVRStudio 4.12.498

Any Ideas?

One update -
Once selecting the JTAGICE mkII platform then selecting any other platform all the devices are missing as well until I close AVRStudio and reopen it...

Maybe upgrade to the latest version?

Not yet and not likely to be soon :? as I have to do this with 15 different machines in my specific teaching lab... and around 300 machines throughout the whole college of engineering @ U.W. Madison where I work.

Well it takes about 5 minutes per machine to apply 4.13.528 and there's nothing to stop you kicking it off on all 15 in parallel.

Ahh but I get to deal with the universities computer/network police which means it'll be a while.

I am working on a new lab computer image with the IT guys now and upgraded to 4.13 b 528 and still have the same problem -

I can connect to the JTAGICE mkII - and even upgraded its firmware but when I try to ICE a MEGA32 part I can't select any target processors as they are all grayed out.

- this doesn't get fixed by restarting AVRStudio either

Note this is testing with a standard user level privledge also - I'm hoping it will be a permission issue with the part description files & will update once that testing has been done.

I think it's been noted before that you must run with Admin level priveleges for it to work.

After Testing I can confirm this - but specifically all I had to change permissions on was the XML files in Partdescriptionfiles folder under AVR Tools in the install path...

The other caveat for putting this application in a secure computing environment is the USB driver for the AVRISP mkII and JTAGICE mkII which requires administrative privileges to install - which means you need to physically attach either on your base image machine before creating a ghost image (or some other type of disk image) of it.
